In an indication of growing ability of farmers to face challenges posed by rapidly changing climate, crop insurance claim settlement by state agencies has crossed Rs 15,500-crore mark, benefiting almost 4 crore farmers across the country . Total agriculture insurance claims that were settled during 2008-09 with the involvement of AIC (Agriculture Insurance Company of India, which implements the scheme) were Rs 2,200 crore, of which the company s share was Rs 600 crore.
